How can you not have a corrupt ineffectual government with the mentality of "every man for himself" or "individualism?" My dictionary defines "individualism" as:
1 pursuit of personal goals: the pursuit of personal happiness and independence rather than collective goals or interest
2 person trait; a personal peculiarity or trait
3 belief in importance of the individual; the belief that society exists for the benefit of individual people, who must not be constrained by government interventions or made subordinate to collective interests
"We the People of the United States" ordained the Constitution of the United States for the collective interest and benefit of the society of the United States:
We the People of the United
States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure
domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general
Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do
ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Our Government is ordained to provide for the "common defense" of the American People and not just select individual and corporate interests. For the "general Welfare" of all citizens and not just the Wealthy and business concerns. "Establish Justice" for all not only the rich, influential and powerful. "Secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" not to deny liberty to the unfortunate or downtrodden.
Should Don Blankenship, former Chairman and CEO of Massey Energy Co., have had the individual right to ignore workplace safety regulations which caused the death of dozens of coal mine workers? Should executives of BP have had the individual right to lie about and ignore safety regulations that led to the Gulf oil spill? Should Jerry Sandusky have had the right to sexually abuse kids in his personal pursuit of happiness? How about Bernie Madoff's Ponzi Scam? Should Madoff have had the right to steal investors money and for the government not to intervene in his scam? Shouldn't Willard Romney have to answer these questions about the individual rights he advocates for?
Or do you believe you should elect Mitt Romney President of the United States so that he can pursue an individual agenda and use the office to personally benefit Mitt Romney and his investors at the expense of the collective of the People of the United States?
